CLUB CURATION
High art meets low brow looks at club philosophy.
Clubs created for the likes of Mona Foma Festival, Performance Space and the Museum of Contemporary Art and taking place in unusual spaces from nightclubs to mountain-tops. Each iteration is a design focused world with programming driven by female, queer and non-binary artists and creating collaborations between with local makers, community groups and international artists. Programmed artists include Sevdaliza, Eartheater, Howie Lee, Electric Fields, Tygapaw, DJ Marfox, Nidia and DJ Niggafox from the Principe label.
"Take a singer like Deni, who is a local Tasmanian Aboriginal activist, singer and songwriter. For her to work with someone like Nakhane, who is this international pop star, opens up all this opportunity for her, but it also gives the visiting artist a sense of the identity of the place—and that is really important for a festival. It shouldn’t be about shopping. You’re not just buying acts. It’s about the exchange. "
"It was a Dolly Parton-themed drag show. There were people dressed up as koalas talking about displacement and colonisation and indigeneity and it’s like, I thought I was just here for drag and now I’m learning about sovereignty? Incredible."
